New Town Hall Phone Lines Coming, Service Interruption Possible

New main number should be up and running on Monday.

You may have some trouble reaching Town Hall by telephone Friday afternoon, but its for a good reason.

The Town of East Hampton is in the process of implementing a new telephone system. "The “cutover” will be taking place late this afternoon and over the weekend," according to Len Bernard, the town budget officer who oversees the technology department.

Intermittent service to town phones after 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon through Sunday are expected. Phone lines to the East Hampton Town Police Department are not included in this.

On Monday, the new system will be active, Bernard said. "For the first time in the history of the Town we will have a main Town number where people can call in and through a series of prompts be directed to a program/department area, or an individual," he said.

The new main number is 631-324-4141.

Those needing to reach the town can still call departments directly using the existing department numbers.

"The big change is the main town number that can help someone who may not know exactly where to go to get to someone in a specific area of interest," he said.
