Knobel Takes Back East Hampton Republican Committee Reins

Former chairman was elected to the position again last week.

The Republican party voted in a new chairperson last week.

Tom Knobel, who served as the vice chairman for the past year, was elected to fill the position vacated by Kurt Kappel at the Dec. 11 meeting.

Knobel has a strong political background. He spent 10 years as a town trustee and four years as town councilman. He previously served as chairman of the Republican committee for seven years, from 1998 to 2005. He served as vice chairman since January 2012.

He also works at the Suffolk County Board of Elections as a purchasing agent.

Kappel was commended for his efforts as the chairman, according to a statement from the Republican committee.
