Carpenter Flown to Stony Brook After Fall at Construction Site

The man fell into the basement onto his head Thursday afternoon, police chief says.

A man fell one story at a construction site in East Hampton Village and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The accident occurred at 91 Briar Patch Road at about 1 p.m.

Village Police Chief Jerry Larsen said a carpenter fell from the first floor into the basement onto a sand floor, landing on his head. The concrete had not been poured yet, he said.

"He definitely had some kind of head or neck injury," Larsen said.

The East Hampton Volunteer Ambulance Association treated him at the construction site, and transported him to East Hampton Airport to meet the Medevac helicopter.

A Suffolk County police helicopter airlifted him to Stony Brook.

The chief did not immediately release the worker's name.
