Montauk Gala Helps Playhouse Swim Closer Towards Pool

So far, $2 million raised, leaving $3 million left to build the pool at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center.

More than 400 guests came out Saturday night for the “Diamond in the Rough Gala” in support of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center's effort to build a pool.

The annual fundraiser raises money to build an Aquatic Center and community spaces at the historic Montauk Playhouse.

Rori Finazzo, the gala director, said the 2013 gala was a huge success. "Each year, with each event we raise more than the year before. We couldn’t have asked for a better event and a better turnout. It was a truly special evening in — and for —Montauk, as we celebrated the philanthropic commitment of our honorees and raised awareness and enthusiasm for the Aquatic Center project," she said.

The sold-out fundraiser also celebrated the philanthropic efforts of honorees, Drew Doscher, Andy Harris and Sally Richardson, and Dennis and Rosanna Sisco.

"The outstanding support of our community is more important than ever as we near the half-way mark of our campaign for the Aquatic Center. By next year's Gala we hope to be celebrating the news of a groundbreaking date for the start of construction!," Finazzo said.

Maureen Rutkowski, the project director said the fundraising goal for the Aquatic Center is $5 million — $4 million for construction and $1 million for an endowment. She said, "so far, through grants and community support, we have raised close to $2 million in funds earmarked toward first-floor community rooms and aquatic center construction."

The exact amount raised through the gala was not immediately available.
