Funeral for Donald Alversa Set for Friday

Service will be held at St. Therese Church in Montauk.

A funeral for Donald Alversa, the 24-year-old fisherman who died Saturday night, will be held on Friday.

His brother, Kenneth Alversa, said on Tuesday that the funeral service will take place at St. Therese Lisieux Church in Montauk at 10 a.m.

As previously reported, a wake will be held at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.

Donald Alversa, who was raised and resided in Montauk, died from injuries he sustained while working aboard a commercial fishing vessel, off the coast of North Carolina, on Saturday night.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Brandyn Hill said Alversa had head and neck injuries after a wire on the commercial fishing vessel parted. He was airlifted off the 90-foot dragger and transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died.

The Coast Guard is investigating how the accident occurred.
