The Depot Art Gallery on Edgemere Road is the original railroad waiting room at the Montauk terminal. The Long IslandMore Rail Road's station and tracks are just beyond the gallery. The Montauk Artists' Association, which runs the gallery and the art school, continually renovates the building. The classrooms, photo lab, and lecture facilities are on the second floor in the old station master's quarters.

A not-for-profit organization, the Montauk Artists' Association promotes art education and awareness on the East End,More where it has a membership of more than 200 people. It runs the Depot Art Gallery and a small art school at the old train terminal at the foot of the Long Island Railroad Station in Montauk. The association sponsors art shows, workshops and programs, and it provides a scholarship in the memory of Percy Heath, a well-known jazz bassist (Modern Jazz Quartet) and fisherman who co-founded the association, to a graduating high school senior from Montauk who intends to study the arts.

Ever since then, a group of volunteers from the smallMore hamlet of Amagansett have banded together to fight fires, answer calls for emergency medical service and help lead the community.
