The East Hampton Town Department of Fire Prevention holds the fire marshal's office with several New York State…More certified fire investigators. They are not only responsible for investigating the cause and origin of any fire in the town, but they also inspect buildings, monitor fireworks displays, issue various fire safety-related permits, and coordinate fire prevention activities.
Annually, fire marshals inspect about 3,000 commercial buildings and schools for fire safety violations, and will inspect residences if requested. The office offers about 160 programs to nearly 4,000 students in the schools throughout the town and present fire safety training to employees at private businesses. It is also responsible for East Hampton Town HazMat Response team, and also coordinates with the six fire districts in the town.
The chief fire marshal, along with the town police chief, are the hearing officers for those appealing fines for false burglar or fire alarms.
