The town clerk's office is the center of all town affairs. The office is located in the new Town Hall. Parking is on…More the side of the building or behind the old town hall.
An elected four-year position, Fred Overton has been in office for 10 years. He attends town board metings, and keeps the minutes, as his office has custody of all town records, including those that date back to the settlement of 1648. He is also the Freedom of Information Law officer in the town.
The office issues marriage, dog, shellfish, and hunting licenses, and recycling, handicap parking, and beach permits. It oversees the recreational and commercial town boat slips, and handles false fire and burglar alarm claims.
