The leading animal rescue organization on the South Fork of Long Island, the ARF has helped more than 16,000 dogs and…More cats in its more than 30 years of existence. Offering shelter and adoption services, the privately funded organization takes in more than 700 pets each year. Some dogs are rescued from puppy mills throughout the country, and from places as far away as Puerto Rico and St. Croix. ARF also provides veterinary care at its up-to-date "no-kill" adoption center.
In addition, ARF provides spaying and neutering programs, dog opediance classes, community outreach and education, and a program that helps owners in crisis care for their pets. Another program helps to reduce the ferel cat population through Operation Cat, a trap, neuter, and return strategy.
The ARF Thrift and Treasure Shop in nearby Sagaponack helps raise money.
