There is a very simple reason for the rising cost of education...everything costs more every year.…Read More To maintain standards, you have to pay. Vote YES on the school budgets. Don't pay lip service to how much we care for our children. Do something concrete to show we care as a community. The budgets have been debated for months.

There really is no excuse for the constantly rising price to educate our children. Schools in other…Read More states educate for 1/10 per child. Those who continue to vote tax increases on us must have plenty of money. Vote NO on the school budgets. Bring common sense and fiscal responsibility to our schools.

I was at this intersection at least four times today. What I find dangerous is the speed at which…Read More people drive up and down Cedar Street. There are no visibility issues. It's crazy out there. People all over the place walking with their back to traffic with head phones in there ears wearing dark cloths. The trucks fly down Main Street in the village like they are going to a fire. My side view mirror was destroyed last Thursday while parked in front of Starbucks. I am constantly tailgated by locals. People j-walk everywhere and then well meaning people stop to let them go and cause near fender benders. The north end of Cedar Street is so over run with deer. What is scary is being tail gated and knowing if a deer shoots out I may stop in time to avoid the deer but the impatient person behind me will not be able to stop.

I Really feel if the 2 of you are going to make comments and statements like these you should not…Read More hide behind a screen name. Doesn't the board preach transparency. My feeling is both of you may be board members. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. If you don't like what that person stands for , don't vote for them. I don't think it is necessary to post mean comments. Have we lowered ourselves to smear campaigns? Good luck to everyone that is running tomorrow.

There has been nothing "respectful" or "thoughtful" in your voice lately. If…Read More elected, will you continue to spread lies? How can you be trusted to not talk about things happening in Executive Session? Some things, like personnel or student matters, the public does not have a right to know.

Moving forward....yes, more continuity is needed and is likely to be achieved with the current…Read More interviewing of potential candidates for the new Principal of the elementary school. We should be confident and supportive that the best choice for this position will be selected and will remain for many years to come. Alleviating the problematic administrative turnover at the elementary level is a good start. Superintendent Burns himself, only having been at the helm for just this year, has many years ahead of him as well to help our schools become what they should be. Mr. Burns, regarded by past school board President Laura Anker-Grossman upon his selection to fill the role of Superintendent and as quoted in a EH Patch article from 8/4/2011 had stated,
"Burns is “extraordinary,” with “great people skills and very high academic standards. I think he will really work on committing the district to moving ahead in terms of achievement. He showed a wisdom and a level of education and knowledge that was impressive.” But, Anker-Grossman added, during a time of “enormous change” district wide, Burns “will be able to dispel the mistrust and division in the district. He understands the economic situation we live in and will really be capable of making hard decisions.”as a "Visionary for the Town of East Hampton"
Mr. Burns clearly has already made some tough decisions. Together with a new JMMES Principal, and more communication the District will be en route to being a role model for other district. Hopefully with consideration to the discord surrounding a very recent decision, some of the candidates will not bring strife and discord like that of the current East Hampton Town Board which is divided to say the least, to the table. The current School Board is doing a great job. They are local citizens, many of whom have or have had children in the District. Who in their right mind does not want to do what's best for children of and for a school district? What's done is done. Again, moving forward it should only be positive and productive!
With that said, it is probably best (in my opinion) to elect singular candidates with separate ideas and knowledge who will work with the remaining Board Members towards common goals and whom can offer independent ideas, objectives and solutions.
