Scavenger Waste Plant - Three Options

The attached document, "Scavenger Waste Forum for Patch," discusses financial and operational concerns of the three main options for the Town of East Hampton's scavenger waste plant.

Dear Reader,

The attached pdf document, “Scavenger Waste Forum for Patch,” discusses financial and operational concerns of the three main options for the Town of East Hampton’s scavenger waste plant. These options are: close the plant, run it as a transfer station, or renovate the plant and return it to being a processing plant.

This document does not discuss specific environmental risks, but it does mention how environmental risks might be alleviated or come into play under different scenarios.

The document was prepared for the forum held in Town Hall in April 2012, hence the name of the document. It was distributed to many of the participants and attendees at that time. The document is again timely because of the recent and future discussions by the Town Board and the public on the immediate and long-term future of the plant.

The first four pages of this document provide a quick and easy-to-read summary of the options, and gives pro’s and con’s for each. The next three pages are a more detailed discussion of the two options that keep the plant open in some capacity. Then there is a page on how the proposed Comprehensive Waste Water Plan fits with these financial and operational concerns. That page was updated for this posting. At the end are two graphs that display processing costs per gallon and profit and loss estimates for a processing plant.
