Weekend Agenda: ARF Pet Celebration Day, Mother's Day 5K
What's happening Mother's Day weekend in East Hampton.
Although rain is in the forecast for the weekend, you can celebrate spring. Go buy some plants for your garden, or for your mother's garden, and burn off some calories before Mother's Day brunch at the 5K in Montauk. Here's what's on our calendar for the weekend. Saturday
Plant Sale: Hanging plants, flats, herbs, perennials, cell packs, top soil and more at the Springs Community Presbyterian Church on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
Springs Seedlings Plant Sale: Selling organic vegetables and herbs to benefit the Springs Seedlings school garden project. Stop by the Springs School greenhouse, starting at 9 a.m.
Hebrew Naming Ceremony: Join the Jewish Center of the Hamptons on Shabbat as they confer this blessing of past, present and future. This is a special opportunity for anyone of the Jewish faith, in the community, affiliated or unaffiliated to receive the blessing of a Hebrew name from Rabbi Sheldon Zimmerman and Cantor Debra Stein. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m.
ARF'S Pet Celebration Day: Bring your pets to ARF’s annual Pet Celebration Day at the adoption center in Wainscott from 10 a.m. to noon and enjoy a morning of games, contests and delicious treats. The morning includes dog agility and obedience competitions, music by Sandy Rapp, free microchipping and rabies vaccines, plus Dreesen’s Famous Donuts and Hampton Coffee Company coffee. Plus a Freshpet food carving station for the animals. The morning will conclude with a brief annual meeting, including our awards ceremony and election of board members.
Eighth Grade Car Wash: Students will wash cars by the East Hampton Middle School, starting at 11 a.m. All proceeds go to the eighth grade graduation dinner and dance.
Martha Speaks Live: Bay Street Theatre, partnering with the Children’s Museum of the East End, will present "MARTHA SPEAKS" live on stage at Bay Street Theatre at 11 a.m. The hugely popular children’s animated series, MARTHA SPEAKS, is seen daily on PBS Kids and based on Susan Meddaugh's best-selling children's books, Martha the dog is given the power of speech after eating alphabet soup. This live presentation will have something to say to all ages. Price: $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event.
Author Talk: Leslie Brody, a journalist and mother of two, will speak about "The Last Kiss," a memoir about the life-affirming power of a passionate marriage and the resilience of children growing up through one of life's harshest trials. The talk takes place at the East Hampton Library from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Theater Spectacular Honoring Serena Seacat: Former acting students will pay homage to the East Hampton School District longtime director, Serena Seacat, who is retiring. Tickets are available at the door and will benefit the East Hampton theater department and help initiate a theater arts scholarship. Price: $10

Montauk Mother's Day 5K: Montauk Youth's 9th Annual Mother's Day 5K starts from the Gazebo at 8:30 a.m. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. All proceeds go to a local family in need. Price: $10 suggested donation
