Coming Up: Veterans Day, Gallery Talk, and Clam Chowder Dinner

Here's a look at the week ahead.

MONDAY -- Veterans Day
Town Hall, Schools, East Hampton Recycling Center & Montauk Transfer Station closed

Veterans Day Parade: Over in Sag Harbor, residents will celebrate those who defended against the British troops attempt to invade the village during the War of 1812, 200 years ago. First, the annual Veterans Day parade will be held, starting at the Civil War Monument down Main Street and onto Bay Street, at 9 a.m. A gathering will follow at the Chelberg-Battle Post of the American Legion on Bay Street. Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. will present a proclamation honoring Sag Harbor’s part in War of 1812.Veterans Day Parade: The Everit Albert Herter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 550 is sponsoring a parade on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The parade starts at London Jewelers, the old VFW building, on Main Street in East Hampton Village, and proceeds down Pantigo Road to the monuments, where will be a few short remarks. Afterwards, everyone is invited to American Legion Post 419 in Amagansett for the 11-11-11 ceremony at 11 a.m.
Veterans Day Flag Ceremony
: The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation will hold its seventh annual Flag Ceremony in honor of our veterans on Veterans Day at 10 a.m. The ceremony, which will also include the singing of patriotic songs, will be held at the Suzanne Koch Gosman Flagpole Garden. Coffee and treats will be served following the ceremony in the Senior Nutrition Center Dining Room.

TUESDAY

School Board: The Amagansett School Board meets at 7:30 a.m.

Work Session:
The East Hampton Town Board will meet for a work session at the Montauk firehouse at 10 a.m.

School Board: The Montauk School Board meets at 4 p.m.

Trustees: The East Hampton Town Trustees meet at the office on Bluff Road in Amagansett at 6 p.m.

ZBA: The East Hamton Town Zoning Board of Appeals will meet at Town Hall for a work session at 6:30 p.m.

The Changing Role of Women in the Military: In commemoration  of Veterans Day, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will hold a program the following day on “The Changing Role of Women in the Military: Viet Nam to Gulf War and Beyond" at the Hampton Bays Library at 7 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

Bond Propositions Vote: Sag Harbor School District Voters will go to the polls on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voting takes place in the Pierson gymnasium. 

Ladies Night Out with the Children's Museum of the East End: This event, which will be held at East Hampton Grill from 6 to 8 p.m. Purchase your ticket online at www.cmee.org.

THURSDAY

Planning Board: The East Hampton Village Planning Board will meet in the Emergency Services Building at 11 a.m.

Author Reading: Meet author Kara Westerman, who wrote, "Meandering in the Mind of Nabokov," at East Hampton Library at 5:30 p.m.

Moving Screening: The Friends of the Montauk Library present "Monsters University" at 7 p.m. Free refreshments will be served.

ARB: The East Hampton Town Architectural Review Board will meet at Town Hall at 7 p.m.

Pierson High School's Fall Play: Pierson High School presents Billy St. John's A Murderer Among Us, a comedic murder mystery, a hilarious whodunit, a riotous romp, for the whole family. Also Friday and Saturday. Begins at 7 p.m. Price: $5

FRIDAY

SATURDAY

Four Points of View Art Show: The art show at Ashawagh Hall in Springs will feature the works of Kirsten Benfield, Pingree Louchheim, Jerry Schwabe and
Richard Udice. The show runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A reception will be held on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Migration Challenge: It's migration season in Montauk. Explore the hazards and helpers that migratory animals encounter on their journey at Hither Hills State Park at 11 a.m. Fun for all ages. Price: $4 per adult, $3 per child 3 to 17, and free to those under 3. Parking is free. Note: Reservations required.

Camp Hero State Park Hike and Seek: This is a two-hour hike through Camp Hero State Park in Montauk starts at 1 p.m. Fun for the whole family. Price: $4 per adult, $3 per child 3 to 17, and free to those under 3. Parking is free. Note: Reservations required.

Autumn Fun Folk Tales Storytelling with Robin Bady: Listen to stories from
near and far about autumn, winter, and the changing seasons at the Montauk Library at 3 p.m.

Amaryllis Planting: Children Grades K-6 plant bulbs with HAH at the Amagansett Library at 3:30 p.m. to take home. Watch them grown and enjoy gorgeous blooms in winter. Register in advance:

Clam Chowder Dinner:
The Springs Fire Department will hold its Clam Chowder Dinner at the firehouse from 4 to 6 p.m. Price: All you can eat for $15. For tickets call 631-599-8180.

SUNDAY

Gallery Talk with Artist Christa Maiwald: Artist leads a tour of her exhibition "Short Stories and Other Embroideries" at Guild Hall in East Hampton at 2 p.m. Exhibition on view through Jan. 5. Price: Gallery Talk free with museum admission, $7 suggested admission.
