Loved the Cold, Snowy Winter? Here Comes a Hot, Rainy Summer

The signs of Spring are starting to arrive—(slightly) warmer temperatures, (sometimes) sunnier skies, the return of North Fork Bob, the osprey, to Downs Creek in Cutchogue, and the return of Joe Schwenk (aka @HamptonsBorn) to Twitter. It's been a long, cold, rugged Winter. So take a deep breath, enjoy the moment—and brace yourself for a possibly rotten Summer, weather-wise.

The New York Post reports that The Farmer's Almanac is predicting an unusually damp and sticky Summer for the area.

“It looks like it’s going to be an oppressively hot and humid summer for the New York area,” said Sandi Duncan, the almanac’s managing editor.

“It’s going to be very humid and thundery,” she added.

According to the Almanac, we'll feel the heat most in early June, early to mid-July, and early to mid-August. And we'll get plenty of rain all through the summer, before it tapers off in August.

The Fall promises to be a mixed bag.

The good news? September and October will be, for the most part, warmer and drier than normal. The bad news? A "severe hurricane will likely threaten the East Coast sometime between Sept. 16 and 19, and take a course similar to that of Hurricane Sandy in 2012."

As the Post notes, the Farmer's Almanac claims to be correct 80 percent of the time. Here's hoping that this Summer falls into the 20 percent incorrect category.
