Registration Open for Soldier Ride the Hamptons
Bicycle 30 or 60 miles to benefit Wounded Warrior Project.
Registration has begun for Soldier Ride the Hamptons, a long-distance cycling event coming up July 20 that raises money for veterans who suffered permanent injuries during their service.
The registration fee is $50 — or $25 for cyclists 25 and younger — and participants are encouraged to raise even more for the cause by asking friends and family to sponsor them. Cyclists can register individually or join a team. Everyone who pre-registers gets a fundraising website to solicit donations.
Cyclists can opt to ride the 30-mile route, which will take them from Amagansett to Sag Harbor and back, or the 60-miler, which treks to Montauk before returning to Amagansett.
Cyclists begin arriving at Ocean View Farm at 7 a.m. to pickup their packets. A kick-off celebration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the ride departs at 9 a.m.
There is a stop in Sag Harbor on Long Wharf for a ceremony honoring fallen Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter. Wounded Warriors, including amputees, will take a lap around the village on specially made bicycles.
Musical entertainment will also be provided, and a chance for riders to snack and rehydrate. There will be water stops all along the routes.
Cyclists each receive a T-shirt and lunch at the conclusion of the ride.
In both Amagansett and Sag Harbor, 5K walks are planned at the same time the ride is going on. Registration is $25.
Register to ride or walk at soldierridethehamptons.com.
Active-duty members of the military can email signatureevents@woundedwarriorproject.org for a promotional code to use when they register.
Also to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, Rock the Farm begins at Ocean View Farm at 6 p.m. July 20 with The English Beat and more musical acts. Tickets are $130 per person, available at stephentalkhouse.com.
