SAILING AGAIN!!!! 2013

When I was recently in Venice, Italy too often I was thinking about sailing in the many bay’s of the east end. Now that my 22’ Catalina sailboat is rigged up and in the water the pleasures of sailing the east end for 2013 have started. Noyac Bay, Peconic Bay, Gardiner’s Bay and Block Island Sound are all daily destinations. The serenity and beauty of every sail only augments the delightful sounds a motor less boat makes when under sail. As I age, that sound seems to become sweeter and sweeter. The natural beauty of the east end viewed from the bays is a gift not all locals enjoy enough. Things do look and feel different from the water. The sunsets, all so different are very powerful and breathtaking. The ability to drop anchor and go for a scenic swim, just off, Crescent Beach (known as Sunset Beach) on Shelter Island or Orient Point State Park, Long Beach, Sammy’s Beach, Barcelona Beach, Maidstone Beach, Louse Point and so many others is special. Landing in Greenport, Sag Harbor Town Dock or any of the spots on Shelter Island is also always a still a thrill. My Beagle Bo is with me every sail, as often is Todd Wickersham, who seems to not mind the fact that my sailboat is 40 years old. Watching fish jump, or amazing views as well as visiting yachts sailing by just doesn’t get old as I age. I hope to see you give that old “nautical wave” as you pass me out on the water this summer. No doubt I will be swishing along, with the beagle with his nose to the wind.
