Is it not kind of bizarre millions are being spent on the renovation and expansion of the John Jermain Library in Sag Harbor when in fact children's safety will be at risk do to the residence next door?
The Morpurgo Homestead on Union Church was forced into a sale by the village, fetching $1,460,000 at an auction I attended five years ago right in front of the municipal building. But now the home looks worse then when it was lived in by Annselm Morpurgo and her cats. I wonder what town officials think when they drive by those boarded up windows with the present paint peeling rot. To me it looks quite disgraceful.
It’s just so bizarre in a village where one goes through the ringer to get permission to correct a wooden deck, this building is rotting away with windows broken or falling out. Not to mention all the boarded up doors, in fact with the debris it looks like the worst of the “South Bronx.”
No doubt legal issues are at play here but in the name of safety of young children something radical must be done before some after school children are killed there while up to some mischief. The above photo says it all, Civic pride millions spent next to civic disgrace. Time to do something, not pass the buck!
