Is MSNBC Hurting Obama's Poll Numbers

As President Obama's poll numbers sink, Rachel Maddow's ratings rise. Why is that? Could it be that that the core of the Democratic Party is tuning in MSNBC now more than ever for the wrong reasons. Now President Obama's Affordable Care Act is a lead weight to his poll numbers. Yet I think there is more to it.

To Democrats, President Obama looked better running for President against Mitt Romney then he does being President compared to Bill Clinton. There is no doubt that his White House staff has acted like a bunch of goons against the very PRESS core that created his "Brand." Yet I think the polling problem goes beyond that.

In the same way that Rush Limbaugh's ratings are higher when someone he's not supporting (LOL) is in the White House, I believe Ms. Maddow's numbers go up as the President's approval rating goes down. There is no doubt that Chris Mathews, Chris Hayes, and Ed Shultz along with Ms. Maddow are Democratic party zealots, but ratings are important. Al Sharpton is a whole different type of TV and I predict in 20 years he will become folklore for his shows because he is so obvious on what he is attempting to do with each show. That is bring the black point of view into the discussion. Perhaps over time he will become a touch smoother on the air.

Smooth sailing is boring TV so what we have now is something new. The MSNBC model seems to be to promote the least favorable part of the Democrat's agenda to the country at large, which no doubt hurts the President's popularity, but boosts MSNBC's ratings. I know it is not the MSNBC network's job to do all it can to make Obama popular unless there is a general election, but now I believe they are wounding him pretending to be trying to help him.

Lastly I want to put in print under my name that not only do I believe, but I want to publicly state that Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have no chance of being the Republican nominee for President in 2016, just like Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin had no chance at all in 2012. But for MSNBC these names are magnets for better ratings. Fighting the "good fight" use to be an art form. Now it is embarrassing to watch treasured ideals used to create murkiness to distort reality. Now I understand the verbal bomb throwing Fox network perhaps needs a countervailing force, but it can be done better, by aiming at the center and not the extremes.

In the last year President Obama won an election, but somehow lost the country, meanwhile Rachel Maddow's star has brightened. Somehow I believe there is a correlation. Maybe MSNBC's extreme presentation of the Democratic party is Tea Party like to mainstream Democrats who long for the way it was when people on either side of the political discussion had valid points and could meet in the middle to rule the nation.
