Huge Southampton/East Hampton Town Elections Ignored by Local News Websites

The young love the internet. Their eyes are glued to their various types of screens and usually they wear headphone checking out trending hashtags, you-tube videos and "air" news. Surveying the 4 local web sites you would never know that in both Southampton and East Hampton a sea change in local government power is at stake in the election in next two and a half weeks.

The new medium of "website news" is perhaps under funded to have political reporters at events who have a sense of history about what may happen. Too many of the websites are "Access Hollywood" oriented pushing the "buzz" of the Hamptons and not having adult level content. They are stuck on being, acting and writing like they are 19 years old. No wonder the websites have not made the money their owners would like, the content is too frivolous, inconstant, and irrelevant. But in life you get what you pay for and most of these sites don't pay writers anything. Content matters, you can't charge advertisers money to advertise around dribble.

So with these two huge elections just weeks away all those reporters/editors were running around the film festival to take photos of themselves and the film stars. Now, perhaps they should find out and report what will happen in this upcoming election. It is only boring when bad editor/writers half heartedly brush over it because it is not "tabloid" enough.

I am not asking for the sites to take sides, but to do research, put in the time, and perhaps editorialize beyond the soundbites. We just saw what bad government looks like in D.C., lets do better at home.
