Huge Changes Coming To East Hampton Politics

Some say the more things change the more things remain the same, but for East Hampton politics that just simply is not true. The political moral compass of the town is going to change after this election day as the EH Democratic Party's candidates will once again control the town. Now for those who live in the town you don't need someone like me to explain the events of the last 6 years. The summery has to be it was rough public relations for the last two town supervisors, one from each party. One was publicly called incompetent, corrupt, and in over his head, while the next one was called out for his lack of "people skills," although he was competent. However come next year when the new Supervisor Larry Cantwell is sworn in and the Democrats have the majority on the board, many issues will be re-addressed such as town jobs, the refuge/dump situation and perhaps taxes. This is not going to be a simple "Beach Fee's" post election. Larry Cantwell is the man of the moment, seemingly trusted by all. A local man with a long history of good judgement, but I promise all, two years from now he will not run unopposed. Changes and decisions will have to be made, and one thing I have observed about the Town of East Hampton residents is they don't like changes that effects them and hate being on the other side of decisions. Election night will be like a testimonial for a local hero returning home to replace the wicked witch of the west. But as fast as the ink can dry on papers like the Independent, trouble will manifest itself. I could be wrong, heck I hope I am, I love happy endings. Yet 4 years ago when Republicans Quigley, Stanzione, and Wilkinson were swept in to power with over 60% of the vote who predicted what will happen this first Tuesday in November. My answer, nobody.
