Eugenia Bartell passed away on April 4, of this year, today is her birthday, the first since death so I will write this short tribute. This woman cared about getting the story right. She cared about her community, Montauk. She cared about the human condition, as her reporting proved. The celebration of efforts will be forever be her words, her photo's and her comments. I worked with her, I worked for her and I am happy to say she made me a better person, a better writer, a better reporter and so much more. The Montauk Pioneer the paper she led also died, and I know she felt terrible about that 50 year history ending. I know that because she told me so.
