Alec Baldwin, Anger Management, and the Hamptons

It is amazing how when one says or does something stupid it appears in ink, whereas when one does many good things it just isn’t news. Case in point, Alec Baldwin. In the last seven years I have watched Alec Baldwin give so much of his time, and yes, money, to East Hampton. He is a regular at the East Hampton Library Authors Night, he contributes to Guild Hall, he works hard to make the Hamptons International Film Festival thrive, and of course his work for The Group for the East End. Then there are the things he does behind the scenes, sometimes at his home. I even saw him play tennis in a Pro-Am for scholarships at the Ross School.  So it saddens me when I see him or read about him losing his temper, usually with reporters, who provoke him. You can take the boy out of Long Island, but you can’t take the Long Island out of the boy; meaning, when provoked, watch out. It is an imperfect world, so at times everybody is imperfect. I would dread to have all my worst conversations with my children made public. Yes I would always defend my wife’s honor and most likely come off looking like a jerk, and lastly I sometimes say things in anger that I am not proud of. Everyone needs to manage their anger moments better; it’s just that most of our moments don’t appear in print to sell papers. Mr. Baldwin could sit at a private beach, smoke Havana cigars, sip French wines, and only surround himself with servants paid to make his life, heaven on earth, but no, he gives his time, his money and part of his soul to his community, and to the less fortunate. Yes he is quite a “Ham.” But most actors are, they love being under the lights and hearing the applause and yes booing and bad reviews injure them. East Hampton is lucky Alec Baldwin lives in the community. Whether you love him or hate him, you must admit he gives his time and money to make this community better.

In other words, ignore it when Alec Baldwin threatens some one, punches some one, acts like a lunatic or calls his daughter a fat pig, his money and liberal prestige excuse him from any fault. I guess when he actually does hurt some one we can just chalk it up to over exuberance, throw a few bucks at the problem, host a charity and every thing will be alright.

I believe almost all those incidents were the same Post reporter who was baiting him, stalking him to get a reaction. The daughter recording was a private conversation. Your point is like saying all conservatives shoot minorities with guns when they are angry or as in the Florida situation, hunting in the neighborhood for undesirables. But Thank you for reading my blog on East Hampton Patch.com

At the beach with his kid, he was just like all the other parents standing with arms crossed watching over their kids in the surf. He could have left it to a nanny. Instead he was there for his daughter and was friendly with the other parents. His ex was endlessly manipulative and cruel to the point of making him feel suicidal. Perhaps she has NPD- narcissistic personality disorder- something that doesn't change from treatment. But he fought the battles, took anger management classes, persevered and got joint custody. He has a temper-- he's that kind of guy. It appears the media needed a replacement for Sean Penn-- a public person to push until he loses his temper. He has done a lot for the community-- the scholarships will positively change young lives, for example. I wish him well with the next phase of his family life.
