East Hampton Library screens "The Seven Percent Solution" (1976) Sherlock Holmes

film screening "The Seven Percent Solution" at The East Hampton Library Tuesday July 17 5-7 PM

There has been tremendous fascination surrounding  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary detective character Sherlock Holmes.  The character still continues to turn up in such recent books as Steve Hockensmiths "Holmes on the Range," in which a cowboy in 1893 attempts to solve a crime using skills he has required from reading Sherlock Holmes stories. Holmes recently appears again on film, this time played by Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows."

The East Hampton Library will be screening "The Seven Percent Solution."  This 1976 film staring Nicol Williamson, as Holmes, and Robert Duvall, as Watson; centers around Holmes drug habit of taking a seven percent solution of cocaine.  Holmes seeks the help of Sigmund Freud, (played by Alan Arkin) to help kick his cocaine habit.  The film is based on Nicholas Meyers 1974 novel of the same title.  Also in the cast are Vanessa Redgrave, Samantha Eggar, Joel Gray, Jill Townsend (Nicol Williams real life wife) and a great performance by Sir Laurence Olivier as professor Moriarty.

See this great film at The East Hampton Library for free on Tuesday July 17th, from 5-7 PM.  Call (631) 324-0222 ext 3, or email steven@easthamptonlibrary.org for a reservation.
