Peconic Public Broadcasting, WPPB 88.3 FM, will begin its live coverage of the 38th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show starting Aug. 25 at 11 a.m.
“We’re going to have three separate days for the live broadcast,” said Hal Fickett, the WPPB marketing associate. “It’s called the Hampton Classic Broadcast Series.”
On Aug. 25, WPPB will broadcast from the Hampton Classic grounds in Bridgehampton from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Aug. 31, the broadcast will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sept. 1 it will be between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Apart from the live broadcast of those day’s events, Fickett said, “We’ll be doing different features, like five Hampton classics vignettes, describing moments in the history of the Hampton Classics,” provided by Hampton Classic Executive Director Shanette Barth Cohen.
WPPB’s Hampton Classic Series will offer a “ring-side seat” to the events, bringing participants and celebrities in front of the microphone to offer their comments. WPPB personality Bonnie Grice, the host of "The Eclectic Café," will be interviewing sponsors, riders, various personalities to get what Fickett called, “the big picture on the Classic.” These broadcasts will be sponsored by Longine.
“If someone can’t make the Classic,” he said, “they’re going to get a really clear picture through the live broadcast Bonnie is hosting.”
Highlights from the Hampton Classic Horse Show include the crowning of the winner of the $30,000 Longines Rider Challenge, and the $250,000 FTI Grand Prix and FEI World Cup™ Qualifier on Sunday, Sept. 1. The Grand Prix, open to horses that successfully complete Friday's $50,000 Spy Coast Farm/Young Horse Show Series Grand Prix Qualifier presented by Longines, features Olympians, world champions and other show jumping veterans.
