Tuesday Night Regattas New This Summer

Sail Montauk organizes short sailboat races with opportunities for all to get involved.

Sailors, gear up for some friendly competition: Tuesday Night Regattas are setting sail in Montauk the rest of the summer

Sail Montauk, which offers private sailing charters, lessons and sunset sails, is organizing the sailboat races and will be racing all four Catalina 22s each Tuesday evening. Three short races will take place each week with three crew positions available on each boat.

The flier states that no experience is necessary to take part, as each boat will have a licensed skipper aboard. The price is $95 per person.

"We are starting up Regatta Tuesdays to bring a bit of fun, light sailboat racing to Montauk," said Emily Havlik, Sail Montauk's co-owner and operations manager, who started the business with Darius Ali in 2011. "We've been offering charters and lessons here for three years now, and have discovered a lot of 'closet sailors' in the community. Our Tuesday Night Regattas are a great way to get out and sail for a bit, or just come down and watch the races and talk with other sailors."

There will also be a viewing and after party at the Montauk Yacht Club's Hurricane Alley.

The first regatta will be held this coming Tuesday, and continue on Aug. 6, Aug. 13, Aug. 20, and Aug. 27.

Participants are asked to arrive dockside by 5:30 p.m. The races will take place between 6 and 8 p.m.

Already, Hamptons Free Ride, Navy Beach and Corey's Wave are taking part.
Sponsorships for a full boat are $250.
