Sag Harbor Native Striking Toward MLB Draft

Kyle McGowin's having a breakout year at Savannah State.

Sag Harbor's Kyle McGowin may be headed toward a professional baseball career, according to Baseball America. 

McGowin, a Pierson High School graduate and the son of Shaun and Stacy McGowin, is a breakout Division I pitcher, playing for Savannah State.

As of Sunday, McGowin, a junior, is tied for first in the nation with 7 wins and no losses. He has 67 strikeouts, which put him third in the nation. He holds a 1.60 ERA and has pitched 56 1/3 innings so far this season.

"Righthander Kyle McGowin is on track to easily become the school’s highest draft pick and continues to gain steam as he climbs up the Division I leaderboards," a feature article on Baseball America said. It reported:

McGowin was undrafted out of high school and hasn’t been on the scouting radar in a major summer college league. He’s just steadily improved every year for the Tigers under head coach Carlton Hardy.

McGowin is also a former membr of the Sag Harbor Whalers. After playing in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League last summer, he was ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the league.
