Grossman, Lynch Come Up Short at States

Coach says it was a 'fine showing.'

While the two members of the didn't walk from the State tournament this weekend with a win, they ended an impressive year on a positive note.

Senior and team co-captain Zach Grossman shot a 156 and junior Ian Lynch shot a 165 for their first two rounds at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., on Saturday and Sunday.

Grossman tied for 17th and earned All State honors. Lynch also tied, for 49th, amongst 99 of the state's top high school golfers.

East Hampton High School Coach Claude Beudert said, "After a disappointing 82, Zach was pleased to shoot at 74 on the next day. In a statement put together by Beudert, Grossman said, “I didn’t want New York State to think I was a hack after the first round."

According to Beudert, "Ian was happy with his round because he lost his swing and had to “grind out” and scramble to achieve his score. It was a fine showing for Lynch’s first appearance UpState."

“He’ll be back, he’s too focused and talented not to return” Beudert added.

Gavin Hall of Pittsford Mendon High School won the tournament. His team won the championship for Section V for the third year in a row. East Hampton is in Section VI.
