Winter Sea Bird Watch at Montauk Point: Eiders, Grebes & Loons

Led by Vicki Bustamante, Ed Johann, Barbara Rubinstein and Karen Rubinstein
Dress warmly; bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them.

Did you know that Montauk is one of America’s premier birding spots, known for its amazing winter bird life? As the north freezes over, thousands of sea birds, especially waterfowl, migrate from their northern summer breeding grounds to the waters off Montauk Point to feed on the rich marine life. Join us to view and learn to identify some of these avian winter residents: White-winged Scoter, Black Scoter, Surf Scoter, Common Eider, Common and Red-throated Loons, Northern Gannets, Horned Grebe, Long-tailed Duck, Red-breasted Merganser. We even get lucky and see some unusual species such as the Harlequin Duck, Razorbill, or King Eider!

Scopes will be set up on the patio of the concession stand, and experienced birders will point out distinguishing identification marks
