Film: The City Dark (Rated PG)
Filmmaker will participate in a Q & A after the screening and there will be a reception at the (former Plaza) Bodega Restaurant on the Plaza.
With scenes filmed in Montauk, The City Dark is a feature documentary about light pollution, including interviews with astronomers, naturalists, biologists, and ornithologists describing the effects of the loss of darkness on our health and well-being.
The screening of this movie coincides with an effort underway to undermine our current “Dark Sky” lighting code in the Town. Learning about the importance of protecting our view of a beautiful night sky will help inform the public about this important issue.
Described by The New York Times as, “A documentary about light pollution that is entertaining and thought provoking… [the] interviews explore what our increasing inability to see the night sky means for us philosophically.”
If skies are clear, bring your family and friends to Montauk County Park and explore the night sky with Montauk Observatory astronomers following the Montauk fireworks, approximate start: 9:30 pm.
The Montauk Movie Theater is located at 3 Edgemere Road in Montauk.
