East Hampton falls to the Huntington Blue Devils, 38-6

Game Quarterback said Bonackers "fought hard and did our best."

On Oct. 23, the Bonac football team lost their fifth game of the season to the Huntington Blue Devils, in a Suffolk Division III football game, 38-6 which brings the Bonac record to 2-5.  Although this was the Blue Devils' Homecoming game, the coach credited the Bonackers with playing them hard.

Turning Point:  After the punt fake at the start of the second quarter the Blue Devils were on notice that the Bonackers were not going away easily.

Quotable:  When reflecting on how the season went, this week's QB Steve Bahns, who filled in for the injured Franke Grande states, "It's true that we were undermanned, but we fought hard and did our best."

Technically, Bahns is a wide receiver, but lately, he's "the everything man" Coach Steve Redlus said.  "He's good at everything," said defensive lineman, Kevin Mott. Bahns has been the emergency quarterback when the first and second string QB's are out.

Bottom Line:  Traditionally, homecoming games are selected to pit the home team against a team they think they can readily beat.  This appeared to be one of those games.  However, the East Hampton Bonackers fought hard, played well, and did not go down without a fight.  Despite having a losing record, the Bonac football team shows a lot of team spirit on and off the field.  The camaraderie between the players and the coaches is astounding, and the community support is well deserved and appreciated.  With no hopes for playoff contention this year, all of the players and coaches have worked so hard this season, and deserve paeans of praise for the way they represent the town of East Hampton.

Key Stat:  Bahns threw a 30 yard touchdown pass to Cory Pawlukojc.  However, the 2-point conversion fell short.
