For the last three years, the largest team to compete in Ellen's Run in Southampton was East Hampton Village Deputy Mayor 's team.
Borsack, a breast cancer survivor, walked the course, and then walked away, with the sneaker statue for the biggest team at the 3.1-mile race on Sunday. The proceeds from Ellen's Run, now in its 17th year, goes to The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at .
"It is always a great event," she said. "Every year for me is a victory."
Borsack was first diagnosed with stage-one breast cancer in January 2009. After three months of chemotherapy, she took the suggestion of her niece Shawn Mitchell to get a team together for Ellen's Run and a large group of family, friends, fellow members, and village workers have returned ever since.
On Sunday, Borsack's team had over 60 participants. Last year, . "Hopefully, we'll be back up there again next year," she said.
Her granddaughter Piper Borsack was the youngest team member at 2 years old. She rode on her fathers shoulders most of the course, but she walked toward the end, bouncing across the finish line, Borsack said.
