Canoe & Kayak Races in Riverhead this Weekend


Riverhead will host the second annual Paddle Battle Long Island  on Saturday, July 26. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on the Peconic River waterfront. Racers can compete in three different classes: recreational, competitive and elite. Each class will also be divided into age categories from 13 to 60. 

The event raises money for two East End not-for profit organizations, the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation and the East End Tourism Alliance.

The race events include a 5-mile competitive race, a 2.5-mile amateur race, and a 12-mile elite class race. There will also be a pair of two-person canoe and kayaks races and kayak and canoe rentals will be available the day of the race.The cost to enter is $50 per person in advance or $65 on race day. Life vests are required and all participants must wear their own personal floatation device during the race. 
The rain date is Sunday, July 27.
