A blessing of the boards was held at in Montauk on Sunday to try to ensure good waves all summer long for surfers, a Wall Street Journal blog details.
The Rev. Michael Rieder of gave his very first board blessing to a group of 30 -- mainly wetsuit-clad surfers -- with longboards, boogie boards, snowboards, skateboards. One man had a different take; he brought a two-by-four.
“Dear God, your son walked on water but we know it would have been a lot more fun if he had a surf board or boogie board,” Rieder reportedly said, as he sprinkled holy water.
