"Modern Tide: Midcentury Architecture on Long Island" has been accepted into the Long Island International Film Expo. There will be a showing July 12 at noon at Bellmore Movies.
“Modern Tide” is a documentary about Long Island architecture by director Jake Gorst, an Emmy-winning producer of films and music for public television and the global market. His company is Jonamac Productions.
The film highlights Long Island’s often under-appreciated modernist architecture treasures. Most of the examples are from the Hamptons, plus the North Fork and Fire Island, with both rare older footage and beautiful recent high-definition cinematography.
The film premiered in Palm Springs, CA in February as part of Modernism Week, then went to Houston, TX and then the 2012 Newport Beach Film Festival. It has been submitted to the Hamptons International Film Festival. It has also been shown in New Zealand.
“I am thrilled how well this film is bring received,” says Gorst. “My hope is that the film will move Long Islanders to take a more serious look at the need to preserve our midcentury architectural resources.”
