Shark Attack 2013

Dear Montauk,

It's here!

The party that, last year, wasn't going to happen this year, is happening.
Ok, so what?
What's another 4000 folks having a good time in Montauk on Star Island.
At least it's not near your house.
I guess you will just hear the gossip or read about it in the local papers next week.

Maybe you're for it, maybe you're against it.
Maybe it's near your home, maybe it's not.
May be it was near your home in the past and maybe not.
Maybe after the event they will end up at the next stop near your home and maybe not.

Either way here is what I suggest, short of leaving town.
Concerned citizens should Go out.
Go out and witness this for yourself,
so you have a formed opinion,
for the next Town Board Meeting,
good or bad, of how it actually went down.

Go out, say around 7p or so,
drive up and down West Lake Drive
slowly so you get a good close look at what was approved
and the plan for it.
Maybe slow down the speeding taxis and busses while you're at it.

Go out say around 11p to see if the music really has stopped
like Dominick said it would.
Go out to see if the "woo hoo" girls and the "f#*k yeah" boys,
which is their entire vocabulary at that time of night,
are quietly exiting Star Island Drive after wonderful evenings event.
you know, quietly like after the ACTUAL fundraisers WE all attend throughout the year.

Watch as they then make their way back down East Flamingo, Flamingo
West Lake Drive, Old West Lake Drive,
Ooops. They thought it was the same
And now there is no bathroom around.
Nothing but your driveway and a lake
But it's all OK, at least it wasn't near YOUR house

Then 1000 cars will want to find the next place to go.
The Light House, Ditch Plains, Crow's Nest, Ruschmeyer's, Liar's Saloon,
the share house near your home that isn't allowed under town code.

Lastly, go out Saturday, say around 7am.
Maybe someone fell asleep on your lawn,
in your car, on your boat.
It's ok, that was someone else's lawn, car and boat.
You will hear the gossip about it.
You won't ever read about it,
because no one is going to make it into the police blotter.
