School Districts Facing Major Budget Gaps

East Hampton Town schools will have to make hard decision to close the budget gaps.

Thanks to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's 2-percent tax levy cap, East Hampton Town school districts are facing millions of dollars in gaps in its 2012-13 budgets.

According to The East Hampton Star, the East Hampton School District is facing a $2.85 million difference. However, that number could change pending figures on what the district owes the teachers retirement fund and assessment numbers from town offices.

In Springs, the gap is estimated at $1.09 million. School board president Kathee Burke Gonzales told The Star, "Closing this budget gap is daunting."
