Races Set For East Hampton, Springs, and Montauk School Boards

Also, longtime Wainscott School Board president decides not to seek re-election.

The nominating petitions are officially in. Here are the names that will appear on the ballots during the May 21 school board elections:

Amagansett School District

There is no race in Amagansett, where two incumbents — John Hossenlopp and Victoria Smudzinski — are seeking re-election.

East Hampton School District

There are six candidates for a total of three positions on the seven-member school board that are open.

Alison Anderson is the only incumbent seeking re-election, as George Aman, the board president, and Lauren Dempsey are stepping down.

Nicholas Boland, J.P. Foster, Wendy Geehreng, Mary Ella Moeller, and Richard Wilson are also running.

Each position is for a term of three years.

Montauk School District


There's a race in Montauk this year. Honora Herlihy and Lee White are vying for the same position, a five-year term. Therese Watson's seat expires at the end of June.

Springs School District

Three candidates are going for two seats on the Springs School Board. Martin Drew, Jeff Miller, and Adam Wilson have each submitted nominating petitions.

Neither incumbents on the five-member board are seeking re-election. Kathee Burke Gonzalez, the current board president, and Teresa Schurr are stepping down at the end of June.

The open positions are each for three year terms.

Wainscott School District

William A Babinski Jr. is the only candidate seeking the three-year position on the three-member board. Longtime member and board president Nancy McCaffrey is not seeking re-election.
