Principal Returns To Post

Eric Casale is back at Springs School after a one week absence.

Eric Casale, the Springs School principal, returned to school on Monday after a one week, health-related absence.

"I want to say thanks to all the students, parents and staff that sent wishes. It was truly appreciated," he told East Hampton Patch on Monday.

Casale was rushed to the emergency room on May 2. His ailment was not disclosed.

The school has faced difficulties in recent weeks. Casale's absence came about a week after the assistant principal, Dr. Katherine A. Byrnes abruptly left the district.

This weekend, the district also acknowledged that Department of Education is investigation "a testing irregularity" regarding one student and one staff member that was allege during April's state assessments.

On Monday, the school welcome Casale back during its "spirit meet" in the morning — he was given balloons, according to a note on the district website. "Our students were dancing in the gym and were very jubilant to see Mr. Casale’s smiling face with us again. It was surely evident that the standing ovation he received was just one sign of how much our Springs children and school community appreciate all that he does," the message read.

In an email to parents, Casale wrote, "I can't tell you how much better it made me feel reading numerous well wishes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
