Pierson-Bridgehampton Field Hockey Wins Sunday and Moves onto State Tournament

Police and fire departments escorted the Lady Whalers into Sag Harbor while community members cheered on the victory.

The combined field hockey team of Pierson-Bridgehampton High Schools took down Friends Academy 2-0 in the regionals at the State University of New York at Old Westbury on Sunday. They received a hero's welcome home.

Katherine Matthers, a Pierson freshman, scored the only two goals for the team in the second half -- her first goals of the season. The class C champions will leave for Syracuse on Thursday.

The Lady Whalers came back into Sag Harbor with a parade led by the Sag Harbor Village Police Department, Sag Harbor Fire Department, Bridgehampton Fire Department, and Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps on Sunday afternoon. Horns were blaring, red jerseys were being waved, and a small crowd gathered to wave signs.
