'Our Children Are Not Common': Forum Slated For Aquarium

The event is free.

As the controversy rages on regarding the Common Core curriculum, an East End Educational Forum called "Our Kids Are Not Common: Their Education Shouldn't Be Either" will be held in Riverhead next week.

The forum will take place at the Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

On the agenda is a discussion about how high stakes testing, APPR, the Common Core, and sharing of personal data are affecting the educational experience.

Speakers will include Brian Wasson, educator and advocate for protection of student data, Jeanette Deutermann, founder of LI Opt Out Info on Facebook and co-founder of New York State Allies for Public Education, Dr. Joseph Rella, superintendent of the Comsewogue School District, Terry Kalb, retired special education teacher and parent advocate, and Mary Calamia, a clinical social worker who has testified to the New York State Assembly about the damage she believes children are suffering under the Common Core Corriculum.

The event is free and all are welcome.
