Long Island Women's Fund Supports East Hampton Triathletes

Transformation Through Triathlon receives a $7,000 grant.

A local a fitness and wellness program for at-risk adolescent girls through triathlon training has received yet another grant to help provide the training for students of more East End schools.

, known as I-TRI, is the recipient of a $7,000 grant from the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls

According to executive director Theresa Roden, the money will help bring equipment and training to students at the , and possibly schools so that they can take part in the 2012 . Two weeks ago, 23 Springs students participated in the race.

The Long Island Fund for Women & Girls, based in Jericho, is a charitable organization that invests in the power of women and the dreams of girls, according to a statement.

"We are thrilled to be supporting the incredible girls of I-TRI," said the fund's executive director Laurel Parker-West, who looked-on at the race last month. "Watching these resilient girls swim, bike, and race was an inspiring reminder that together, we can reach that finish line of gender equality for all Long Islanders.”

I-TRI has received two other grants recently. In June, the organization received two $10,000 grants from local non-profits. The came from Simple Works Foundation, an East Hampton-based organization that funds smaller projects aimed at the health, wellness and education of children. The was from the .
