Local Students Up For Teeny Awards

Aspiring young stars will be honored for their theatrical talents at the Teenys.

It's that time of year again — when young, aspiring stars are honored for their theatrical talents at the Teeny Awards. This year, the 11th Annual Teeny Awards will be held on June 9 at Southold Junior-Senior High School.

Local students and lead performers nominated include Yori Johnson, for lead actor in a comedy for East Hampton High School's, "Pygmalion," and Julia Tyson, for lead actress in a comedy, also for East Hampton's "Pygmalion," and Emily Hinz, for lead actress in a musical for Pierson's "Funny Girl."

Also nominated were Aubrey Jowers, for best supporting actor in a drama for Ross School's performance of "One Acts: The Sin Eater,"  Maria Popova, for supporting actress in a drama for Ross' performance of "One Acts: The Sin Eater," Abigail Gianis, for supporting actress in a comedy for Pierson's "Hurry Up and Wait," Denise Mulenga  for supporting actress in a comedy for Ross' "One Acts: No Dogs Allowed," and Denis Hartnet for supporting actor in a musical for "Funny Girl."

Also, Rebecca Dwoskin was nominated for an Outstanding Performance as Trixie in "Funny Girl." Sadie Klughers was nominated for her work on the "Pygmalion" poster art.

The ceremony will be open to the public and hosted by Bonnie Grice, a WPPB 88.3 radio personality. For more information and to purchase tickets, $20, click here.

INNOVATIONS IN THEATRE EDUCATION

This award recognizes the efforts of a school that goes above and beyond to support exceptional theatre arts education. This year, Bridgehampton High School is being recognized for its production of “A Night on Broadway: A Musical Revue,” which was a non-book musical written, performed and produced by its students and volunteer staff. This is the first theatrical production in the school.
