Liz Pucci: I'm Nervous About Future Cuts

Well-known as a parent and volunteer, this East Hampton School Board candidate wants to help the district start fresh.

Whether it's at a PTA meeting, on the playground or in the lunch room, Liz Pucci is a familiar face to parents and teachers in East Hampton.

A mother of sons, ranging from 13 to 22, Pucci has been involved with the school district for 16 years and now hopes for a seat on the Board of Education.

She's currently a lunch monitor, a paid position she said she will resign from if elected given laws that current employees cannot be in charge of district finances.

"I love the kids," she said. "I'm nervous for our schools," she said of potential cuts. She would like to see the cuts shared across the board.

She's already been a president and vice president of the PTA, serves on the site-based committee, and has filled in on the special education committee, as well as serving as a middle school grade level coordinator.

"After going to a few board meetings, I feel parents voices are not being heard," Pucci said. In controversies like the rumors about children's programs being cut, she thinks the board could do a better job of getting information to the parents.

Pucci herself is a graduate of East Hampton High School after moving to East Hampton from Islip. She attended Suffolk County Community College for two years.

Her husband is Bob Pucci of , and their two youngest sons are in 7th grade at with another in 10th grade. Their 20-year-old is also a graduate of the high school and is in his second year at Northeastern University. Their oldest, who is learning disabled, received a certificate through the high school from Maryhaven in Riverhead.

"I don't really have an agenda," Pucci said. She said she just hopes to use common sense, learn along the way, and help the board get a fresh start.

She is in support of the proposed . "I hope the budget passes, it's very important it does."
