Lions Club Honors High Schoolers

Three students have received the Student of the Month award so far this year.

The Lions Club of East Hampton has recognized three students at so far this academic school year.

Michael Burns, Elias Van Sickle and Ian Lynch received the awards for September, October and November respectively.

  • Michael Burns, the September Student of the Month, is the son of Lydia Shaternik Burns of Montauk. Michael has an unweighted g.p.a. of 98.44. Michael is an East Hampton Town sailing instructor and a member of the Sag Harbor Sailing Club. He plays the clarinet for East Hampton High School Pit Band as well as the Sag Harbor Community Band, and plays the piano for Jazz Band. In addition, he is a member of several other clubs including Natural Helpers, 4H, Robotics, Manly Men, Choral Group and History Club. He also volunteers for many groups doing community service.
  • Elias Van Sickle, the October Student of the Month, is the son of Krae Van Sickle and Marion Rohrbach of East Hampton. Elias has an unweighted g.p.a. of 97.04. He participates in various sports including Volleyball, Crew, Surfing and Kite Surfing. Elias organized and participated in the first ever Kite Surfer fundraiser from Montauk to Block Island, raising money for the East Hampton Ocean Rescue Volunteer Squad. Google Razoo for pictures and details. His other Community Service includes participation in Soldier Ride as well as a month long trip to Panama to build and paint houses. He is the founder/president of the Debate Club and is a member of the Academic Team, Youth Court, and Environmental Clubs.
  • Ian Lynch, the November Student of the Month, is the son of Brian and Carol Lynch of East Hampton. Ian has an unweighted g.p.a. of 98.63. Ian is an accomplished golfer, he has been on the Varsity team since 7th grade. This year he played #1 spot, and is the Team Captain, as well as All League #1 golfer in his Conference. He participates in Athletes Helping Athletes, the Academic Team, and Inclusion Recreation Club. Ian has received many academic awards and has obtained 91.5 hours of Community Service.
