Lecture: "Town Street: The Story of East Hampton’s First Road"

Robert Hefner will give a lecture on "Town Street: The
Story of East Hampton’s First Road."

Hefner, who is Director of Historic Services for the Village, will discuss the geography and iconography of how “Town Street,” a broad grassy lawn, became the “Main Street” of today. He will begin with the aboriginal landscape around Hook Pond and its transformation by the settlers into a Puritan New England village design—
that still defines the character of the Village we live in today.

This is the second talk in the East Hampton Historical Society’s 2012 Winter Lecture Series, “What’s in a Name?” There is no admission charge and reservations are not
required. Refreshments will be served before and after the presentation.
