East Hampton Welcomes New Elementary Principal, ESL Director

Elizabeth Doyle will take over at John Marshall as of July 1.

As expected, the East Hampton School Board voted to hire a new elementary school principal and Director of English as a Second Language during a meeting on Tuesday evening.

Elizabeth A. Doyle, who is a principal in Brooklyn, will take the helm at the John M. Marshall Elementary School, replacing Gina Kraus, who was only in the position for a year and a half. Elizabeth Reveiz-Magnowski will fill the ESL director position left by Eugene (Buddy) Kelley Jr., who is retiring after 19 years with the district.

Both women start July 1, for a probationary period of three years.

Doyle's salary is $136,000, while Reveiz-Magnowski's salary is $130,000.

No one from the community spoke at the meeting about the board's unanimous decision directly, though Mary Ella Moeller, who ran unsuccessfully for school board last month, inquired about a comment made on East Hampton Patch with regards to the district paying for housing and transportation for the new hires.

The board said that was not true. Patricia Hope said she believes people who comment on news stories should be made to do so with their full name.

The newest district employees both work far outside the district.

Doyle is in her third year as the principal of the Explore Empower Public Charter School in Brooklyn. She was previously the English department coordinator for kindergarten through 12th grade at the White Plains School District. She has also held other positions, such as instructional supervisor and director of operations, and she worked a fourth grade teacher.

A Bethpage High School graduate who received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Hofstra University, Doyle did not begin her career in education. She worked for Citigroup Bank, rising to the rank of vice president, and answered a call, she said, to enter teaching through the Fellows program in New York City. She holds a master's degree in education from Queens College.

Reveiz-Magnowski is currently the director of Languages Other Than English, ESL, and bilingual services for the Amityville School District, where she is also the summer school principal.
