East Hampton Schools Will Have Delayed Start Tuesday

Icy weather forecast during the morning commute causes 2-hour delay for Tuesday's classes.

Looking ahead to the icy weather conditions expected overnight, all East Hampton schools will have a delayed opening on Tuesday.

East Hampton School District Superintendent Rich Burns made his district's decision around 3 on Monday afternoon as a precautionary measure in light of the weather forecast. Springs, Montauk, Amagansett and Wainscott school districts followed suit.

During the overnight hours, closer to midnight, temperatures will drop to the lower 20s across most of the Island, except for the far East End, where temperatures in the upper 20s are anticipated. Then, around 3 a.m., an icy decline into the mid-teens is expected over most of Long Island, with readings of temperatures in the upper teens to the lower 20s on the East End.

A high of 15 degrees is expected on the East come Tuesday with some snow showers possible as cold air crossing over the Long Island Sound combines with the cold temps.

Patch is still waiting to hear back from other area school districts about whether there will also be a 2-hour delay. Check back to Patch for more information.
