Candidate Profile: Adam Wilson Wants to See Consolidation for Springs

A parent of a graduating eighth grader, Wilson wants to see Springs School focus on technology requirements in state testing.

The annual budget votes and board elections take place throughout Long Island on May 21. In Springs, there are three candidates — Martin Drew, Jeff Miller, and Adam Wilson— vying for two positions on the board of education. The following is a profile of Adam Wilson:

Adam Wilson, 49, is an involved parent in the Springs School District. He and his wife Mary McPartland have a son, Andrew Wilson, who is graduating from eighth grade at the school this year.

A Channel Sales Manager for a company called CallCopy, he's been working in the Telecommunications and Technology sector for the last 20 years.

Originally from Pennsylvania, he graduated from Mount Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh in 1982. He went onto Duquesne University to graduate wit a BA in Communications/journalism in 1987.

A Springs resident since 2000, he's volunteered with youth sports. He served on the East Hampton Little League board for the past four years, and is the current vice president. He's also coached PAL basketball in Springs and also youth soccer for the Town of East Hampton.

Q: What qualifies you to be a member of the school board?

Having a son just completing 8th grade at Springs, I have worked with teachers and administration as it relates to my son's education and thus have an understanding of the educational curriculum as well as the extra curricular programming at Springs school.

Q: Why do you want to be a member of the school board?

We have a lot of things to be proud of at Springs School and I would like to insure that today's students and future students have the excellent educational experience my son has enjoyed.  It's a cliche, but our young people represent this nation's future and we need to continue to provide them with the best education possible.

Q: If elected, what changes would you like to see at the Springs School?

In the long run, I would like to see Springs School be part of a consolidated school district with East Hampton.  For short team changes, I would focus on the upcoming technology requirements that the school faces with New York State testing.  We also need to focus on maintaining the current educational and extra curricular programming under the state mandated budget constraints.  Finally, I would look at gaining more grants for Springs School to help assist in these tough budgetary times.

Q: What is the most serious issue facing the Springs School?

One of the most serious issues facing Springs school is the growing school population.  As a school board member, I would look at our the school's physical plant and how we are planning to accommodate an estimated 100+ additional students in the near future.

ls there anything else you'd like to add?

I'm very excited about the opportunity to serve the Springs community as a school board member and would be honored to accept to be a school board member.  I ask for the support of my fellow Springs residents on Tuesday, May 21.
