$554K Safe Routes Grant to Improve Safety in Springs

New York State Department of Transportation amends budget to pay for pedestrian safety improvements around Springs School.

New York State has tentatively allocated a big chunk of change for pedestrian safety within the Springs School District, according to the office of state Assemblyman Fred Thiele Jr.

Thiele's office reported that the state Department of Transportation has agreed to amend its transportation improvement plan to include $554,310 for sidewalk and intersection improvements in Springs and enhanced safety education programming.

The project is financed by the federal Safe Routes to School program, though the state distributes the funding based on local proposals.
