Community Update

Yesterday at a Town Hall meeting overflowing to the halls, over 150 residents attended the first sit-down with PSEG’s President David Daly and other PSEG executives, Larry Cantwell, Paul Rickenbach, representatives from Thiele and LaValle’s offices and Save East Hampton’s four representatives.



Laid out clearly on the table was the desire to move forward underground. Further information is forthcoming for actual costs on a more direct, shorter 4 mile route, as compared to the 6 mile route they are currently following. The railroad route is being re-looked at thoroughly.



A closed door work session is being held Friday to put an agreement in writing to move forward on working on an underground solution to be completed by Memorial Day 2015.



Despite immense pressure from our politicians and all members of the Save East Hampton Group, especially from Jeremy Samuelson, who challenged David Daly to halt for two days as a show of good faith if he felt could not stop it for 2 weeks yet. David Daly refused, saying he had the power to do so, but did not feel he could stop it at this time.



Also discussed were alternative sources of funding for the project including possible FEMA funding which requires a great deal of pressure from us, State Grants, generous donations from East Hampton residents, and a surcharge for all the residents from Wainscott to Montauk receiving the benefits from the increased power based on the size of their homes and energy usage. The same as was done to Southampton in 2008. We would be setting a precedent for all of East Hampton and all of Long Island.



We need TO FLOOD THE OFFICES OF Gov. Cuomo, President PSEG David Daly and Ralph Suozzi, Chairman of LIPA, with emails to HALT THE PROJECT NOW.
